Excursions : Pompeii
Pompeii is one of the world’s best known archaeological site, partially burried town near Naples in the Italian region of Campania.
Its fame comes from the dramatic destruction and the extraordinary preservation.
On August 24 th 79 a.C. Pompeii between noon and one ò clock the Volcano went off, it caught everyone by surprise.
By chance, the wind was blowing from the northwest, so when the volcanic matter began to fall, it was blown in the direction of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Stabiae and other sites to the southeast. Ash, pumice, and rocks fell, the eruption produced a total darkness. Some people may have tried to escape while others decided to stay in town and this people still present in town died instantly, literally baked alive by the hot air and the surge today it is one of the most popular attraction of Italy, and Unesco World Heritage site.
